About Remote Access


Remote access is a tool built into iSheriff Complete and iSheriff Cloud Endpoint Security that allows the administrator to remotely administer Windows based machines. There are three crucial components in the operation of Remote Access. The Remote Access client, the cloud license manager, and the Cloud Remote Access viewer. It is important to understand that this tool is designed to be used for remote troubleshooting and management. Thus, the Remote Access client is not automatically installed on every workstation. It must be manually installed. It is also important to note that this is currently only available for Windows based clients and is based on VNC.


Installing the Remote Access Client


Installation is done via the Endpoint Local Manager which can be accessed by clicking on the iSheriff icon in the system tray and selecting Setup. There may be a prompt for a setup password, this is the password is configured as part of your iSheriff Cloud Endpoint configuration. Select Remote Access, and then click the Install Service.


Once the Remote Access Client completes installation, a license key will be required. Contact support with hostname of the client machine to request a license key. This license generation may take a few hours, and is a one time process.





The Cloud Remote Access Viewer


The Cloud Remote Access viewer is that which allows you to view the desktop of the enduser using the Remote Access Client. There are two versions of the Cloud Remote Access Viewer that will works for connecting. One is a Windows application that is installed on the system, the other is a locally downloaded file that works with a web browser. All non-Windows machines must run the Browser Remote Access Viewer.


To run the Windows Remote Access Viewer simply click the link in the Remote Access screen to download the file, extract the zip and run the executable.

To run the Browser Remote Access Viewer simply click the link in the Remote Access screen to download the file, extract the zip file and open the viewer.html file with your preferred browser.


To connect to a Remote Access client using the Windows viewer enter the license for the system you wish to connect to. This license can be obtained by clicking 'Connect' on the License Manager. The request screen for the license will immediately show at the time you open the Remote Access Viewer.

To connect using the Browser Remote Access Viewer, launch the HTML file, and enter the license key for the Endpoint Remote Access Client you wish to connect to. This license can be obtained by clicking 'Connect' on the License Manager. The request screen for the license will immediately show at the time you open the Browser Remote Access Viewer.
