How to Filter traffic based on file extension



In order to block applications with the iSheriff endpoint software follow the steps listed below:


Log into the iSheriff cloud management console and go to:

 

Filter Management à Overview à Edit policy à Data Protection àFile Types

Data Protection is a policy base setting so rules have to be created per policy assignment.



Two options are available when setting up filtering based on File types:


Basic Mode and Advanced Mode


Basic Mode: Lets you allow/block the most common file types. 



Click on the drop down menu in front of the file type and set it to Allow or Block.

You can have the same file type blocked for download and allowed for upload at the same time or vice versa. 



Advanced Mode: Lets you allow/block file types by customizing statements or by selecting from a predefined list.

There are two options available. Filter Web Download and Filter Web Upload.


Expand them in order to setup the File types or Extensions for filtering.



Click on Filter Web Download or Filter Web Upload to see the following options for filtering File types:


Content Types

File Extensions

Click on the Content Types option to expand and then enter a custom file type or select from a predefined list within the field provided.

Click on the File Extensions option to expand and then enter a custom file extension or select from a predefined list within the field provided.




Click Save at the bottom of the page to make changes permanent.
